Lyon, France (10/11 - 12)

Just reversing my thoughts for a moment,  after we settled into our new viking ship, the Heimdal, we actually did a walking tour of the area.  Very close to the ship were two large olympic size community swimming pools and 4 large light towers reminiscent of the standards that hold olympic torches.  The then mayor of Lyon was hoping to attract the 1968 Olympics to Lyon.  (many will recall that the 1968 Summer Olympics were awarded to Mexico and the ensuing controversies that accompanied that year)

The Heimdal was docked right by the green University Bridge and the "Olympic" pool towers can be seen on the right bank of the Rhone.

Crossing over the University Bridge we came upon the Flower Tree Sculpture and fountain.  Created by Korean pop artist Choi Jeong Hwa, the Flower Tree was first created for the Lyon Biennial Contemporary Art Festival (held in years ending with odd numbers) in 2003 but has been sitting at its present location since 2007.

In the distance you can see Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière which is a minor basilica in Lyon, France and their "mini Eiffel Tower".  Okay, come on, that's just a communication tower but the guides like to say it is a mini Eiffel tower.  So in yesterday's posting I talked about touring the basilica and the old town of Lyon.

In further wanderings we came across a fun bakery and other window shopping sites.

Did I mention that Bob is being an influence on Dave and two desserts are now normal
